Also a Mirror

An exhilarating fusion of text, image and sound, a poetic exploration of the loss of memory, a bittersweet and hypnotic interweaving of souls retreating behind the tangled veil of the past.

Director: Glenn Hayden

Cast: Written by Sean Riley

The hit theatre piece of the 2011 Adelaide Fringe Festival returns this August. A collaboration with aged care services provider ECH Inc and Urban Myth Theatre of Youth, Also a Mirror explores the deep sentiment associated with memory loss.

Through the words of young Australians, Also a Mirror directed by Glenn Hayden will be remounted by popular demand. The critically acclaimed production explores treasured memories and the profound effect of dementia on the elderly and their loved ones.

“Making a play about… dementia seems a stretch, until you let yourself into this poetic and moving piece” «««« Tim Lloyd, The Advertiser, 11 March 2011

Written by award-winning South Australian playwright, Sean Riley (The Angel & the Red Priest, Beautiful Words, Significant Others and Skip Miller’s Hit Songs) there is dignity and humour in this production that demonstrates the depth and strength of love.

Part of an ongoing collaboration with ECH, the cast and creative team discovered real-life stories and recollections with ECH clients, providing insight and cross-generational communication unlike any other.

“This is a brilliant piece of theatre that should not be missed” Lowdown Magazine, 10 March 2011

“Youth Theatre should always be encouraged, but this you should see!” 4 stars - Fran Edwards, Adelaide Theatre Guide

“It is no wonder that this beautiful ‘poem’ has another chance to be experienced. The Fringe season was launched as a ‘celebration of the voices of our elders’ but having experienced this project through all of its stages, I truly believe it is a celebration of the voices of young and old,” says director Glenn Hayden.
