A conversation about women’s arts leadership

Around Australia, women in theatre have been discussing the barriers to their career advancement, and industry bosses have been dusting off their EO policies. Yes, it’s true – gender and feminism is back on the table in performing arts dialogue.
Why is it that women lead the independent and small-to-medium sectors (or is that a myth?) yet are far less visible in the major performing arts companies? What are the continuing barriers for career advancement for women in the arts? Is this issue just about recognition of individual talent or is it also about whose stories get told in Australian theatre? What kind of company models, programming and industry development strategies promote a progressive, gender-aware culture in our industry?
With a focus on hearing the voices of independent artists, BossLady will present a day of panels and round-table discussions about women’s arts leadership. In the evening join us for drinks and some responses to the day from guest artists.
Hosted by internationally acclaimed subversive cabaret performer Sarah Ward (Yana Alana, Circus Oz, Sista She), it’s gonna be feisty, it’s gonna be about activism, and you have to be there to be heard.
Tuesday 8th March (International Women’s Day)
